Doug Nix will be giv­ing the third ses­sion in the three-part Intro­duc­tion to Func­tion­al Safety sem­in­ar series at the IEEE Product Safety Engin­eer­ing Soci­ety Vir­tu­al Chapter meet­ing.’

In this third of three ses­sions, Doug will be intro­du­cing key func­tion­al safety con­cepts MTTFD, DCavg, and CCF, and will be dis­cuss­ing Safety-related Soft­ware Devel­op­ment and Veri­fic­a­tion and Val­id­a­tion plan­ning. In addi­tion, there is an extra read­ing list and a com­plete ref­er­ence list you can use to dig deep­er. Need to learn even more? Doug Nix, C.E.T., SM-IEEE ’14 Com­pli­ance inSight Con­sult­ing Inc.

Doug Nix co-owns Com­pli­ance InSight Con­sult­ing, Inc., and writes the Machinery Safety 101 blog. His back­ground spans more than 30 years of engin­eer­ing tech­no­logy exper­i­ence includ­ing product test­ing, indus­tri­al con­trol sys­tem design and machinery safety. Nix spe­cial­izes in machinery and OHS risk assess­ment meth­ods and pro­cesses. He has been teach­ing risk assess­ment prin­ciples and pro­cesses since 1997.

Nix is a mem­ber of the Ontario Asso­ci­ation of Cer­ti­fied Engin­eer­ing Tech­ni­cians and Tech­no­lo­gists (OACETT) and the Insti­tute for Elec­tric­al and Elec­tron­ic Engin­eers (IEEE). Nix serves on 7 CSA, IEC and ISO Tech­nic­al Com­mit­tees related to his work and serves as the Chair of CSA Z1002, and Canada’s com­mit­tees to ISO/TC 199 Safety of Machinery and ISO/TC 270 Plastics and rub­ber machines.
